About the Generation Games

 

How fast can you smash the ‘Tekeli’? How quick can you run with a marble on a spoon in your mouth? Can you beat your grandmother in Chess, or your father in Table Tennis?!

Generation Games is a inter-generational, worldwide community sport event where everyone can participate. The venue is designed in a way that allows people of all ages and ability to experience new and traditional sport in an festive environment. The event is about generations sharing an learning from each other.

About Generation Games Guwahati

Guwahati will be the first city in India to host the Generation Games on 17th January 2018. Dotted with beautiful green mountains and it’s land fed by the stream and tributaries of the mighty Brahmaputra river, Guwahati is popularly known as the ‘Gateway to the Northeast’. It is the capital of Assam, the home to the magnificent one horned Rhinocerous. Guwahati is also developing to be the ‘Sport Capital of India’.

Under the guidance of trained coaches and volunteers, the Guwahati edition will offer 14 Olympic and non-Olympic Sport and 3 ethnic games and a Sport Quiz. From Chess to Taekwondo and Boxing to Archery and Climbing, participants will get the opportunity to play, learn and take part in fun filled competitions absolutely free of charge!

How are teams composed?

 

We encourage people of different ages to spend time together to celebrate sport! Gather a team of 2 to 6 people, including several generations. There may be sisters, fathers, grand parents, aunts, cousins and neighbors. You do not have to be members of the same family as long as you want to move and play together with one another as a team.

 


 

How does the event work?

 

The teams travel around the zones/ stalls set up for different Sport and collect points. These points will be recorded in the scorecard which they will collect at the time of entering the venue.

 

A team must be composed of atleast two generations and will play 4/5 sport to collect points.

Teams that fulfill the above criteria will submit their scorecard to particiate in a lucky draw to win attractive Generation Games merchandise!

PartnersThe Generation Games is the first ever international Sport-for-All event in Assam. For people of Guwahati and Northeast this will be an opportunity to advocate for an age friendly and inclusive city by participating in numerous sport activities designed for people of all age and abilities. Sport Management professionals, leading healthcare and education institutions and organisations in the field of special education have come together to deliver the first ever India edition of the Games at Guwahati.

Akshayam is a non-profit organistion established in the year 2012 for the promotion and development of sport, culture and tourism to benefit the marginalised section of society. Akshayam is working in Assam and Bihar is projects in Chess and Physical Literacy respectively.
